Banking has become an aspect of society that has grown in importance over the years. People use their banks for a variety of services everyday. Nowadays, banks are open late hours, even on weekends to better serve their companies. Therefore, when bank holidays roll around some customers are not prepared. Bank holidays do not happen often, banks are seemingly open almost all the time. However, there are a number of bank holidays that bank customers should be aware of. If banking customers wait until a bank holiday to conduct important business, they will find themselves locked out, literally.
Bank holidays vary from bank to bank and from country to country. In America, bank holidays typically coincide with federal holidays. Federal bank holidays are days such as the Fourth of July or Memorial Day. Federal reserve bank holidays are usually days when many other places of business are closed as well. This is why many people expect to be able to conduct their banking business on their day off, not realizing those days are bank holidays as well. A list of bank holidays can often be found at your local bank branch or on your bank’s website. Bank holidays may also very year-to-year.
